ABOUT BREAKWATER'S MASTODON COTTAGE
Mastodon Cottage is a large studio plus unit at Breakwater, with a private alcove for the bed and sofa, and a very large kitchen with eating area in the main part of the cottage. With room for two people to sleep, there's more than enough room to move around one another in the kitchen. There's a fridge, stove, toaster, oven, and microwave. Whether you want to cook Thanksgiving dinner or just reheat leftovers from one of the restaurants Westport has to offer, this kitchen can handle it. Wake in the morning with the help of the Keurig maker.
In addition to the lovely space inside the cottage, there's a large deck out back where you can sit and look over the pond toward the ocean, listening to all the sounds the coast has to offer.
WHY THE NAME "MASTODON COTTAGE"?
The original jetties surrounding the entrance to Grays Harbor built in 1902 were not strong enough to be permanent. In 1935 the project to replace them was underway. Needing something bigger, a barge named Mastodon was brought in from New York. It was so large it didn’t fit through the Panama Canal and needed to be brought around the southern tip of South America. The Mastodon hauled flat cars full of rocks out to the jetty to be used.

This cottage is amazing for relaxing in every way possible. It's roomy. It's got space to stretch out. It even has an electric fireplace in the bedroom alcove where you can watch a movie or read a book with the fireplace going. Imagine being in this room after a long day out, blinds drawn, lamps lit, fire going, and your favorite movie on the TV. Does vacation get better than that?
These units are dog friendly, so feel free to bring Fido down to the coast with you! No more than two dogs, please, with our typical per dog, per night fee. We even supply blankets for Fido. We are dog lovers, too.

This intimate resort has been here for years, the well-kept secret of a select few guests who valued the peaceful, quiet environment and the nostalgic décor.
With nine crafty condos and five homey cottages, you and your family and friends can create the perfect getaway for yourselves. Need a place where you can host a good-sized group? Talk to us. Each cottage or condo can accommodate 2 to 6 people and, if an event space is needed, the Grayland Community Hall is less than a half mile from the property.
Each cottage or condo includes a kitchenette with fridge, microwave, coffee maker, dishes and utensils, and most with a stove and toaster, so it's easy to whip up breakfast for the group.
Beds are just right for diving into after a long day at the beach, enjoying a whale watching tour or exploring the shops and restaurants in nearby Westport.
Breakwater is a self-check in property. No manager is onsite, but staff are available by phone for service.
ABOUT GRAYLAND & WESTPORT
Try to not tire yourself out at the resort too much, as the towns of Grayland and Westport have much to offer as well! There are many museums to visit (including the International Mermaid Museum), see how cranberries are grown, or walk through Westport and stop into the little shops for gifts or ice cream. If you'd rather hit the open water, join a whale watching tour or charter a fishing boat to test your luck and spin your tales!
